Shillong, Oct 16: Rangdajied United struck four goals in the space of just four minutes early in the second half to completely knock the wind out of Mylliem’s sails in their Shillong Premier League match at the SSA Stadium at First Ground, Polo, on Thursday.
The game finished 4-1 in what was Mylliem’s last match of their inaugural season in the SPL. Micky Marwein (48’), Dibormi Kassar (49’, 50’) and RT Hanson Pdang (52’) scored for RUFC, while Alem Khongwir (68’P) converted a penalty for Mylliem after all the damage was done.
Victory saw Rangdajied jump up to fifth place with a game to go – they now have 12 points from eight games. Mylliem, with 11 points, dropped one spot to seventh.
There was plenty of action in the first half but no goals. Mylliem were positive from the beginning, with Kevin Kurkalang finding Remark Kharmalki on the right flank during a counterattack in the eighth minute. However, Mylliem’s forward was under pressure from a chasing defender and his shot went wide.
Kevin himself would go on to miss a chance of his own in the 12th minute, this time on the left flank and Mylliem would rue another opportunity lost around half an hour later; a well-crafted move involved Alem, Remark and Banraplang Nongsteng but the latter’s shot was off the mark.
Rangdajied then had excellent chances of their own – Micky was blocked by Mylliem goalkeeper Rihoklang Khongjoh and then hit the rebound into the crossbar in the 45th minute. In stoppage time, Dibormi rattled the woodwork too and Hanson then missed the target completely.
However, the game was turned on its head in the second half. On Friday, third-placed Mawlai will take on bottom side Nongrim Hills at 4:30pm.
