SHILLONG, Oct 16: In a development that is expected to significantly enhance tourism and cultural exchange, Meghalaya is likely to welcome direct chartered flights from Thailand by December 2025.
The announcement was made during a tourism promotion event here, organised jointly by the Emerging North-East Eco Forum (ENEEF), the Government of Meghalaya, and a high-level Thai delegation.
Thailand’s Ambassador to India, Thanathip Upatasing, conveyed strong interest in expanding tourism linkages between Thailand and Meghalaya.
The chartered flights, he indicated, would provide seamless connectivity for travellers, marking a milestone in international cooperation and highlighting Meghalaya’s potential as a destination for eco-friendly and cultural tourism.
The event was hosted by the Department of Tourism, Government of Meghalaya, and attended by Governor CH Vijayashankar and Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma.
