JOWAI/SHILLONG, Oct 16: The District Magistrate of West Jaintia Hills District, Abhinav Kumar Singh, has imposed a total curfew under Section 163 of the BNSS in the border areas between Assam and Meghalaya, particularly in Lapangap village for two days on October 16 and 17.
This order has been issued as a preventive measure to maintain peace and security, and to control potential clashes between the two communities (Karbis and Pnars) residing along the Assam-Meghalaya border.
Curfew was lifted in other areas after normalcy returned following the skirmish on October 9. Officials have urged residents of Lapangap to comply with the restrictions and cooperate with law enforcement to ensure peace is maintained.
