SHILLONG, Oct 23: Rajabala MLA Dr Mizanur Rahman Kazi has raised serious concerns over the continuing problem of unscheduled power cuts in his constituency, highlighting the urgent need for major upgrades in the state’s electricity distribution infrastructure.
Speaking on the issue, Kazi noted that while some improvements have been made, residents continue to face frequent outages. “The foremost challenge lies in the distribution lines. Most of the poles and wires are old and deteriorating, often falling and posing serious risks to public safety. This is the number one concern,” he said.
He further pointed out that the transformers in the area are largely outdated and under capacity, resulting in low voltage and irregular power supply. “Even though small changes may have been implemented, much more needs to be done. Voltage fluctuations and unscheduled cuts are still a reality for people in my constituency,” Kazi added.
The MLA stated that he had previously requested the then Power Minister to address these issues. While minor replacements have occurred, such as the installation of a new transformer following his request, he stressed that comprehensive action is required to stabilize the power network.
The Rajabala MLA also confirmed that he has reached out to the new Power Minister and plans to meet him soon to present a detailed assessment of the situation in Rajabala.
“I will apprise him of the exact condition on the ground and work towards solutions that are sustainable and beneficial for all residents,” he said.
