NONGPOH, Oct 24: Acting on a tip-off, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) intercepted a suspected vehicle at Sohryngkham in the wee hours of Friday and arrested two individuals for allegedly trafficking heroin.
According to the police, the ANTF received credible information about suspected drug peddlers travelling from Silchar to Shillong with contraband substances.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence input, a naka checkpoint was set up at Sohryngkham, where a vehicle, bearing registration number AS11EC3733, was detained.
During the search, the team apprehended two occupants of the vehicle—Suma (42) and Sultan Mahammad Mazumder (35), both residents of Silchar, Assam.
A thorough inspection led to the recovery of four soap boxes containing suspected heroin, with a total net weight of 54.13 grams.
The seized contraband and the arrested individuals were later handed over to the in-charge of Sohryngkham Outpost.
Further, an FIR has been registered by the ANTF, Meghalaya, at Sohryngkham Outpost under the East Khasi Hills DEF for further investigation and necessary legal action.
