SHILLONG, Nov 1: Rich tributes were paid to tribal heroes during a programme organised by the Arts and Culture department, along with the Tribal Research Institute, Shillong, at the State Central Library on Saturday as part of the Janjatiya Gaurav Divas celebration.
During the programme, Director of Arts and Culture department, I Majaw, and author Daniel Stone Lyngdoh also paid floral tributes to the busts of three Khasi freedom fighters.
Speaking on the occasion, both emphasised the importance of remembering and honouring the contributions of tribal heroes who fought for the country’s freedom.
The programme also featured musical performances to commemorate the day.
It may be mentioned that Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas is observed to honour tribal freedom fighters, particularly tribal icon Birsa Munda. This year’s celebration holds special significance as it marks the 150th birth anniversary of Birsa Munda.
