Tura, Nov 3: The district level Chief Minister’s Youth Engagement Programme (CM-YEP) 2025 was held today at the District Auditorium, Tura, bringing together young talents from across West Garo Hills for a day of creativity, intellect, and spirited competition.
Organised by the District Sports Office, West Garo Hills in collaboration with the District Administration, the event featured winners from the block-level competitions who participated in various categories such as Painting, Poetry Writing, Declamation, Folk Song, Folk Dance, Quiz, Innovation in Science & Technology, Guitar, One-Act Play, and Tug of War.
The programme was graced by the Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Thomas A. Sangma, as the Chief Guest, in the presence of Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills, Vibhor Agarwal, NPYF National Secretary, Dabo Marak, and District Sports Officer, Saljagring M. Marak, among others.
In his address, the Chief Guest Thomas A. Sangma described the youth as the “pillars and future leaders of society,” and commended the Chief Minister’s vision in launching the CM-YEP as a dynamic platform to nurture the potential of young people in all spheres of life. He emphasized that participation in such programmes is not just about winning prizes, but about learning, gaining experience, and broadening perspectives.
Citing the proverb “Frog in the Well,” he urged the youth not to confine themselves within narrow boundaries but to explore beyond, interact, and learn from others. “Let us not be like the frog in the well that knows only its small world. Make use of such wonderful opportunities, step out, experience, and bring back new ideas to enrich our community,” he said.
He further stressed that with nearly 70% of Meghalaya’s population being young, it is essential to provide them with opportunities that positively channel their energy and creativity for the state’s growth and progress.
Deputy Commissioner Vibhor Agarwal, in his remarks, highlighted the importance of constructive engagement for young people through academics, sports, and cultural activities. He cautioned against the misuse of social media and the growing problem of substance abuse, urging the youth to focus on self-discipline, community service, and productive pursuits.
District Sports Officer, Saljagring M. Marak, expressed gratitude to all participants and collaborators, noting that the CM-YEP serves as a platform for young people to showcase their abilities, exchange ideas, and grow in confidence. He informed that winners from the district-level competitions will represent West Garo Hills at the upcoming State Level Youth Engagement Programme, to be held later this month.
The event concluded with the distribution of prizes and captivating cultural performances that celebrated the district’s rich diversity and youthful energy.
The CM-YEP 2025 stood as a reflection of Meghalaya’s commitment to empowering its youth — fostering creativity, leadership, and a spirit of unity among the next generation.
