SHILLONG, Nov 2: Rajabala MLA Mizanur R Kazi has expressed deep concern over the deteriorating condition of the AMPT Road, now designated as National Highway 27B, calling it the lifeline of the area connecting to Tura.
“Road condition is the primary concern for us. As you are aware, this AMPT Road, which has been taken over by the National Highway, is in really bad shape and it is the lifeline of that area connecting to Tura,” Kazi said.
He pointed out that the extent of damage is such that travelling a distance of just 10 kilometres takes nearly an hour by vehicle.
“The issue has been raised, but the problem is that the National Highway has not yet taken full control of the road—so who will take care of it?” he asked.
The MLA said there had been considerable struggle in getting the matter addressed and that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) has already been submitted for the repair work. “Still, until the National Highway authorities take it up fully, the people continue to suffer,” Kazi added.
