Tura, Nov 3: Social activist, Greneth Sangma has questioned the imbalance in the distribution of tourism projects for the state after a slew of them announced on Sunday went entirely to the Khasi Hills region, leaving the Garo Hills as well as the Jaintia Hills region barehanded.
The Tourism Ministry announced the development of the Sohra Circuit Development under PM-DevINE scheme to the tune of Rs 233 crore.
“The imbalance is very palpable for all to see. Meanwhile, Garo Hills, especially South Garo Hills, boasts numerous tourist spots but has not seen similar sanctioned projects recently. It is imperative that the state government promotes and develops these areas to uplift development and revenue. This disparity raises questions about equitable development in Meghalaya’s tourism sector,” felt Greneth.
The activist, through a letter to the Tourism Minister, has asked for the imbalance to be addressed to ensure equitable development across all regions and promote balanced growth to benefit local communities in both areas.
