SHILLONG, Nov 5: As many as 30 inmates of District Jail, Shillong, benefitted from a two-day Beauty, Hairstyling and Makeup Workshop organised by Accentuate Makeup and Hair Academy in collaboration with the Office of the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, and the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS).
The workshop, which culminated on Wednesday, aimed to equip inmates with practical vocational skills to enhance their confidence and provide avenues for future employment. Each session, lasting four hours per day, featured detailed demonstrations and hands-on training in beauty techniques, makeup artistry and hairstyling.
The programme was attended by East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, Rosetta Mary Kurbah, who appreciated the initiative for promoting skill development and rehabilitation among inmates.
The sessions were conducted by educator and founder of Accentuate Academy, Badap Hynniewta, along with his professional team.
They highlighted the importance of vocational training in building self-reliance and opening opportunities for sustainable livelihoods—both within and beyond prison walls.
“The event received a highly positive response and proved to be a productive and inspiring experience, giving participants a renewed sense of purpose and hope for a brighter future,” a statement in this regard said.
