TURA, Nov 7: State government employees from the Garo Hills have submitted an appeal to the Meghalaya government, seeking the release of an additional 3% Dearness Allowance (DA) and the implementation of the 6th Pay Commission with effect from January 1, 2026.
The appeal follows the state government’s release of a 2% DA, bringing the total to 51% with effect from July 1, 2025—a figure the employees described as inadequate.
“DA is based on the Consumer Price Index. Considering the high price of commodities in Meghalaya as compared to other states, the state’s employees are at a loss with such a meagre amount,” the employees stated in their appeal to Chief Secretary Dr. Shakil P. Ahammed.
Reminding the state government that the process is already under way to implement the 8th Pay Commission for central government employees, they urged that the 6th Pay Commission be implemented for state government employees with effect from January 1, 2026.
Regarding the DA, the employees requested that an additional 3% be released, raising it from the current 51% to 54%.
