SHILLONG, Nov 7: The second phase of the IT Park being constructed at New Shillong Township is expected to be completed before its scheduled completion date.
Government sources informed The Shillong Times that 90% of the work, started in June 2023, has been completed. The project, handled by Badri Rai and Company, is expected to be completed by March next year.
The total cost of the project is Rs 121 crore, and the second phase is expected to employ around 5,000 local youths.
The project under construction is almost double the size of phase 1 of the IT park, with the building spanning 1,70,000 sq feet.
According to the sources, many firms have approached the state government to book a space in the under-construction building, which will have a central air conditioner and four or five lifts.
Earlier, the Meghalaya government had claimed that the first phase of the Shillong IT Park created 1,500 direct jobs and is estimated to have generated 4,500 indirect jobs.
The government is also optimistic about generating around 22,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities through the creation of these tech parks, including the one being constructed at Tura.
