Appreciation for CM’s approval to EMRS in Sohryngkham

SHILLONG, Nov 16: VPP MLA from Mawryngkneng, Heaving Stone Kharpran, has expressed heartfelt appreciation to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma for accepting his proposal to include Sohryngkham Village in the Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) project.
Speaking at a programme commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda at the Sohryngkham Dorbar Hall, held as part of the nationwide Jan Jatiya Gaurav Diwas celebration, Kharpran said he had raised the demand several times in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
He also conveyed gratitude to the Ministry of Tribal Affairs for sanctioning the project and acknowledged the cooperation extended by the Local Dorbar of Sohryngkham.
The MLA thanked both the central and state governments for honouring the legacy of Birsa Munda and for their continued commitment to tribal welfare.
Paying rich tributes to the tribal icon, he recalled Birsa Munda’s valiant resistance against the British East India Company. Kharpran also drew parallels with local tribal heroes including U Tirot Singh, U Kiang Nangbah and Pa Togan Sangma, who similarly defended their land and people.
Remembering Meghalaya’s prominent leaders, he mentioned GG Swell, JJM Nichols Roy, BB Lyngdoh, Purno A Sangma, Hoping Stone Lyngdoh and others for their contributions in safeguarding tribal rights and achieving Statehood.
A major highlight of the event was the online inauguration and laying of the foundation stone for the EMRS at Sohryngkham, officiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the presence of the local MLA and dignitaries.
The programme, organised by the office of the BDO, Mawryngkneng C&RD Block, was attended by several community leaders and officials including Donbor Kharmujai, Sordar Shnong of Sohryngkham, Kiswell Kharkongor, Secretary of the Seng Samla Sohryngkham; Local MDC of Sohryngkham constituency, B. Wankhar; the BDO of Mawryngkneng along with his staff; and officials from the MBDA.
