CAU prog honours tribal communities

SHILLONG, Nov 16: The Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas was celebrated at a programme organised by the College of Post Graduate Studies in Agricultural Sciences (CPGSAS) at Central Agricultural University (Imphal) to honour the cultural heritage and contributions of India’s tribal communities.
As part of the celebration, the college felicitated two notable figures from Meghalaya — Padma Shri Trinity Saioo, recognised for her work in promoting Lakadong turmeric, and Margaret Pathaw, a renowned Indian arm wrestler.
The programme, held on Saturday, was organised under the supervision of Dr Anupam Mishra, Vice Chancellor of CAU, Imphal, and Prof Dwipendra Thakuria, Dean of CPGSAS. Both spoke on the day’s significance and the institution’s commitment to inclusiveness.
Organising secretary of Vidya Bharati Uchcha Shiksha Sansthan, KN Raghunandan, delivered a motivational address focusing on the role of agriculture in national development through innovation and rural transformation. He also spoke on the history of tribal communities, encouraging students to contribute to the agricultural sector and the nation’s socio-economic progress.
The event was attended by students, faculty, and staff.
