Guwahati, Nov. 24: The one-man inquiry commission, headed by a Judge of Gauhati High Court, investigating the circumstances leading to the ‘mysterious’ death of legendary singer and cultural icon Zubeen Garg, has extended the deadline for filing affidavits by three weeks.
The new cut-off date for submissions has now been set for December 12, 2025, a public notice issued by the secretary of the one-man commission stated.
The earlier deadline, which expired on November 21, marked the end of the initial period allocated for individuals and stakeholders to submit sworn statements.
However, following several requests and the large volume of pending affidavits, the commission approved an extension to ensure comprehensive participation.
The Assam government had last month constituted the Commission, headed by Justice Soumitra Saikia, Judge, Gauhati High Court under The Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952 to inquire into the facts and circumstances leading to the unfortunate death of Garg in Singapore on September 19, 2025.
The commission is inquiring into the facts and circumstances leading to the death of the singer; ascertain the sequence of events in the period preceding and following the incident and examine whether there were any lapses, acts of omission or commission, or negligence on the part of any individual, authority, or institution connected with the incident; ascertain whether any external factors, including the possibility of foul play, conspiracy, or unlawful acts, contributed to or were connected with the incident.
Accordingly, a notice was issued on October 17, 2025 instructing all persons having knowledge of the facts and circumstances relating to the incident to submit their statements by way of a duly notarised affidavit.
