SHILLONG, Dec 2: A day after Meghalaya Congress chief Vincent H. Pala termed the new northeast regional front “One North East” as nothing but a BJP-RSS plan, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma hit back at the former by stating that they don’t need to divide the already divided house of the Congress.
“Nobody needs to work to divide them as Congress is already a divided house,” he stated.
Observing that while the Congress leaders may be sitting on the same table they have their own plans internally, he said that the NPP is “in touch” with several Congress leaders.
The Chief Minister, however, did not elaborate on the same.
He also said that as “One North East”, they are not here to fight against or oppose anyone since the front is here from a positive perspective of unification and to send a message of unity of a region.
“We believe that the northeastern states and communities must work together in the larger interest of the region when it comes to political space; it is only when we are united and present a united front that we will be able to carry our message and serve people in a better manner,” he said.
However, the state BJP has not taken kindly Pala’s statement that “One North East” is the saffron party’s ploy.
BJP spokesperson Mariahom Kharkrang said the party is deeply disturbed that a senior politician like Pala could make such utterances without an iota of proof or any shred of evidence.
He pointed out that the BJP rules three states in the Northeast and has representation in the NDA governments in two other states of the region.
“We are voted to power over and over again due to our good governance and inclusive development model. We earn people’s support through transparent politics, things that are foreign to the Congress,” Kharkrang added.
