SHILLONG, Dec 9: Key stakeholders conglomerated for the Meghalaya Cooperative Conclave at the State Convention Centre, Shillong, marking the grand finale of the International Year of Cooperatives (IYC) 2025. According to a statement here, the event, organised by the NABARD Meghalaya Regional Office, was attended by Cooperation Minister, Methodius Dkhar, as the chief guest.
The conclave brought together officials from the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank, MBMA, NCDC, Urban Cooperative Banks, PACS, IVCS, FPOs and NGOs. “Discussions focused on strengthening grassroots cooperative institutions, PACS computerisation and diversification into non-credit activities for financial viability,” the statement said.
Addressing the gathering, Dkhar emphasised the role of cooperatives in agriculture, rural livelihoods, and emerging sectors like dairy, fisheries and handloom. He highlighted NABARD’s initiatives in rural credit, infrastructure and technology adoption, urging cooperatives to embrace modernisation for resilience and growth.
On the other hand, General Manager (OIC), NABARD, Joan R. Blah, underscored NABARD’s efforts to modernise cooperatives through cloud-based CBS, digital solutions and capacity building for PACS transformation.
Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Richard Yanthan, stressed the need for collaboration among stakeholders to strengthen cooperatives and mitigate climate risks impacting agriculture.
The event featured expert talks, success stories from FPOs and SHGs, and awards to pioneering IVCS that migrated to ePACS.
