SHILLONG, Dec 12: The Multi-Facility Hall in Rongram C&RD Block, West Garo Hills, hosted a pivotal public hearing organised by the Meghalaya Society for Social Audit and Transparency (MSSAT) recently. The public hearing presented findings from a social audit of the Health Department, covering Asanang PHC, Dadenggre PHC, Tura Civil Hospital, and District Maternity & Child Hospital, Tura.
Presided over by Tangmera R Sangma, JRDO Rongram Block, the event featured a welcome address from Dr. Imdela Toksie R Marak and insights from MSSAT Director J Pyngrope on Meghalaya’s social audit journey since 2017.
T Lyngwa, retired IAS and Chairperson SSAU, emphasised citizen engagement and Right to Information.
Richa Kulkarni, Sub-Divisional Officer (Sadar), highlighted the need for community-led accountability in health, noting persistent gaps despite investments. The audit (October 21-November 10, 2025) revealed infrastructural deficiencies, staff shortages, service delays, and low entitlement awareness.
