SHILLONG, Dec 16: The Executive Committee of the Dorbar Shnong Madanriting, along with the Village Defence Party (VDP), Seng Kynthei and Seng Samla, on Tuesday jointly decided to destroy a large quantity of illicit liquor seized during a surprise inspection conducted on December 13.
The operation was carried out to curb the illegal sale of liquor within the locality jurisdiction, during which a roadside shop located under Mawblei shnong was sealed after officials recovered a huge stock of illegal liquor.
According to members of the village dorbar, the seizure was the result of sustained vigilance and monitoring by local organisations committed to maintaining peace and social order in the area.
The quantity of liquor recovered was described as alarming, with the Dorbar Shnong expressing disbelief that such a large stock could have originated from a single shop. It was informed that the liquor, packed in numerous cartons, had been brought into the locality on Saturday and was allegedly meant to be sold entirely the following day, Sunday.
The seized liquor was destroyed by emptying the bottles in the presence of representatives of the Dorbar Shnong, VDP, Seng Kynthei, Seng Samla and members of the local organisations.
Prior to the destruction, Rangbah Shnong of Madanriting, Ricky Lyngdoh, issued a stern warning to those involved in the illegal liquor trade, stating that any repeat offence would attract a fine of Rs 1 lakh.
He stressed that the Dorbar Shnong would not tolerate activities that threaten the social fabric and overall well-being of the community.
President of VDP Madanriting, Derick Lyngdoh, and secretary of Seng Kynthei Madanriting, Joycilin Kharumnuid, also reiterated their commitment to working collectively to eliminate illegal activities and safeguard the interests of the locality.
