SHILLONG, Dec 17: The Lama Villa Dorbar Shong on Wednesday expressed concern over the alleged failure of the MeECL to address safety issues surrounding a dilapidated and unsecured entrance to a transformer enclosure in the locality.
According to the Dorbar Shong, repeated representations have been made to the MePDCL since August for the installation of a new barricade or gate to secure the transformer area and prevent any potential mishap. Locality leaders said the open and damaged condition of the enclosure poses a serious safety risk, particularly to children and pedestrians, and could lead to an untoward incident if not addressed urgently.
Despite several reminders, the Dorbar Shong alleged that MeECL has failed to take cognisance of the matter. It further stated that a resident of Lama Villa had even offered to provide unused iron gates free of cost to facilitate securing the transformer enclosure, but no action has been taken so far.
In this regard, the Dorbar Shong appealed to the MeECL and MePDCL authorities to intervene immediately in the interest of public safety, warning that continued neglect could have serious consequences.
Efforts to obtain a response from MeECL officials on the matter were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
