SHILLONG, Dec 18: Voice of the People Party (VPP) president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit on Thursday warned that the party would resume protests if the state government does not immediately make public the report of the Expert Committee on the State Reservation Policy of 1972.
In a strongly-worded message to Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, the VPP supremo highlighted that over six months have elapsed since the committee submitted its report in June 2025, yet it remains unreleased.
He accused the government of showing reluctance to disclose the report despite repeated demands from the VPP.
Basaiawmoit cautioned that the party would restart its agitation unless the report is announced and released without further delay.
The Chief Minister had recently stated that the report would be made public only after Cabinet approval, but provided no specific timeline.
The Expert Committee, chaired by Justice (retired) Mool Chand Garg, was formed in September 2023 to review the reservation policy amid demands from various quarters, including prolonged protests led by the VPP.
The committee submitted its findings to the government in June 2025, but the document has not been released, sparking concerns about transparency in the process.
