SHILLONG, Dec 18: The Seng Samla Mawlai Pyllun (SSMP) on Thursday launched its 20th-anniversary celebrations with a series of sports events scheduled to continue until January 23, 2026. The inaugural programme was opened by Noverius Lyngdoh, Assistant Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD), in the presence of SSMP office-bearers, community elders, and local youth.
Addressing the gathering, Lyngdoh said the organisation’s 19-year history included various challenges that served as important learning experiences. He praised the initiative for promoting sports, stating that such activities allow youth to channel their energy and develop skills beyond academic learning.
Lyngdoh encouraged the SSMP to continue identifying and nurturing local talent to help guide them toward a better future. He noted that youth organisations play a vital role in mentoring aspirants and expressed hope that youth from the community would eventually rise to senior positions in government service. The anniversary celebrations aim to foster unity, discipline, and development among local youth through sports and community engagement.
