NONGPOH, Dec 20: Leaders of the Ri Bhoi Pick-up Owners and Drivers Association lodged an FIR at the Byrnihat Police Station on Friday against alleged outsiders accused of illegally operating a cattle market in the Byrnihat area without valid documents.
The delegation filing the complaint was led by association president Standwell Manih, accompanied by finance secretary Sam Kharnaior and other association members.
Speaking to the media persons, the leaders stated that the decision to file the FIR stemmed from the alleged high-handed manner in which non-tribals were running the market, notably failing to provide employment opportunities to local youths.
They claimed that despite repeated meetings and assurances, including engagements with high-level individuals, promises to employ locals remained unfulfilled.
The association further alleged that the cattle market’s presence had yielded no benefit for local youths, many of whom remain unemployed.
As a result, the leaders said, the association could no longer remain silent and was compelled to seek legal intervention against the market’s alleged operation without proper authorisation from the relevant government authorities.
