Duo held with cannabis in SWGH

AMPATI, Dec 20: South West Garo Hills (SWGH) Police on Friday arrested two persons during a search operation in the border village of Mahendraganj.
The operation, based on intelligence provided by residents of Jangari village under Kalaichar Police Post, was spearheaded by the district’s Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF).
The arrested individuals have been identified as Faruk Sheikh (48) of Nandirchar, Mahendraganj, and Md. Bolurudin Bepari (19) of Beparipara, Mahendraganj.
During the search, the ANTF team recovered suspected cannabis (ganja) weighing 1.666 kg from the possession of Faruk Sheikh.
A case has been registered in connection with the incident and the accused, along with the seized contraband, have been taken into custody.
According to the district police, further investigation is under way to ascertain the source and network involved in the illegal trafficking of the narcotic substances.
