SHILLONG, Dec 23: Humanitarian assistance was extended to two families affected by a devastating fire incident at Mawlai Nonglum by distributing essential relief materials and rice packets.
The relief was handed over by IRCS Chairman Laborious Manik S. Syiem in the presence of the Rangbah Shnong and Rangbah Dong, along with IRCS staff member Badamonlin Thangkhiew and general secretary Andrew Nelson Sawian.
The assistance follows a major fire incident that occurred on Monday afternoon, in which a rented house belonging to Ibadalin Rangslang was completely gutted, resulting in extensive loss of property. The fire reportedly broke out around noon and intensified after a gas cylinder exploded, causing the flames to spread rapidly throughout the house.
The house was occupied by two families—one led by Kyntiewriti Sawkmie, comprising seven members, and the other by Buetilin Sawkmie, who lives with her child.
According to reports, only children were inside the house at the time the fire broke out, and the families became aware of the incident only after the structure had already been engulfed in flames. No casualties were reported.
The IRCS said the relief was provided as an immediate measure to support the affected families in their time of need.
