Guwahati, Jan 8: Manipur Police have rescued four persons from a rented accommodation where they were confined and set to be recruited into a proscribed militant outfit.

Official sources informed that the rescue follows the arrest of an active cadre of Kangleipak Communist Party (MFL), identified as Phamdom Dinesh Singh alias Wangba alias Thembung (37) of Takyel Khongbal Maning Leikai Lairembi Leirak in Imphal West district from his locality under Patsol police station on Wednesday.

Sources said the arrested KCP (MFL) cadre was allegedly engaged in recruiting young people into the outfit.

Police said the four individuals, who had been confined in a rented property at Langjing, were freed during the operation.

A mobile handset and an unregistered motorcycle were seized from the arrested accused.

The recruitment bid on the part of the outfit evokes concerns about militant groups attempting to expand their ranks by targeting vulnerable youths in the region.

However, the authorities have not disclosed the identities of those rescued, citing security reasons.

Meanwhile, security forces continue to conduct search operations and area domination in the fringe and vulnerable areas across districts.

Intelligence-based combing, cordon and search operations are being carried out extensively to nab those involved in extortion and criminal activities in the state, police said.
