SHILLONG, Jan 14: A 42-year-old woman has lodged an FIR at Laitumkhrah Police Station on Wednesday evening, alleging theft and a brutal assault by an unidentified intruder inside her residence at Upper Lachumiere in broad daylight.
According to the complaint, the incident occurred around 2 pm on January 13 when the woman was returning home from Laitumkhrah.
She stated that shortly before reaching her house, she had spoken to her daughter over the phone regarding her whereabouts after NCC training at Garikhana and ended the call after their conversation.
On reaching her residence, the woman noticed that the main door was partially open. Upon entering the house, she found an unknown man inside the second room, allegedly searching for valuables. She attempted to quietly close the door to trap him inside and call for help, but the intruder noticed her movement.
The accused then allegedly attacked her with an iron rod, repeatedly striking her on the head, pulling her hair and hitting her right hand.
During the assault, he reportedly threatened to kill her. After the attack, the assailant allegedly snatched her sling bag containing a mobile phone, house keys and around Rs 100 in cash.
The victim further alleged that the accused locked her inside the second room before fleeing from the spot.
Unable to reach her mother by phone, the woman’s daughter later returned home and, upon finding the second room locked, called out to her. She then broke the door open only to find her mother lying injured on the floor and bleeding from her head.
The injured woman was later rescued and provided medical assistance. She has urged the police to take necessary action against the accused. Police have registered a case and an investigation is under way.
