Assembly polls: Assam Cong extends deadline for filing applications

GUWAHATI, Jan 20: In view of the growing number of ticket aspirants for the upcoming Assembly elections, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has extended the deadline for submitting applications seeking party candidature to January 28.

This was announced by APCC president Gaurav Gogoi who also conveyed his best wishes to the applicants.

Today, several senior leaders, including MLAs Rakibuddin Ahmed and Diganta Barman, co-chairman of the social media department Pratik Bordoloi, party spokesperson Rupa Kalita, and Gautam Bhattacharya, among others, submitted their applications.

According to APCC treasurer Hemhari Pegu, around 750 aspirants have filed their applications from the very first day till now. “By 7pm on Tuesday, more than 150 aspirants had submitted their applications today,” he said.

Notably, the earlier deadline for submitting applications was fixed on Tuesday.

As it is, the Assam PCC headquarters at Rajiv Bhawan here has over the past few days been bustling with activity with the number of ticket aspirants increasing each day.
