TURA, Jan 20: A resident of Tura in West Garo Hills has filed a complaint to the GHADC Secretary alleging illegal occupation and misuse of utilities at the GHADC Members’ Hostel, by certain individuals.

The complaint was filed by one, S B Sangma, who claimed that certain GHADC employees and other unauthorized persons along with their family members are illegally occupying portions of the hostel premises.

“They are residing illegally under staircases, steps and nearby unauthorized areas which are not meant for residential use. In several cases, 8-10 persons are staying together in one such place causing overcrowding, noise and safety concerns,” Sangma said.

Pointing out that the illegal encroachers are connecting water pipes from main water lines, using electricity without authorization and toilets, Sangma urged the authority to immediately evict the unauthorized encroachers, disconnect all illegal utility connections, issue and enforce an order specifying the number of persons allowed per room and strictly prohibit the use of toilets or open spaces for the purpose.
