RGU to host 38 th BCI National All India Inter-University Moot Court Competition

Guwahati, Jan 27: One of the most prestigious and competitive moot court events in
the country, the 38th Bar Council of India (BCI) National All India Inter-University Moot Court Competition 2026 is being held for the first time in the North East India and this will be hosted by The Assam Royal Global University (RGU) from 29th to 31st January, bringing together law students from universities across India.

The competition is being organised under the aegis of the Bar Council of India and the Bar Council of India Trust-Pearl First, according to a Press release.
This has been announced at a press meet organised by Royal Global University here today. The press meet was addressed by Prof. A. K. Buragohain, Vice Chancellor, Royal Global University; Prof. Bhuban Chandra Barooah, Dean, Royal School of Law & Administration (RSLA); Advocate Rakhee Sirauthia Chowdhury, Visiting Faculty, Royal School of Law & Administration; Dr. D. N. Singh, Registrar (Academics), and Angira Mimani, Associate Dean, Student Affairs, RGU. It was moderated by Dr Rani Pathak Das, Public Relations Officer, RGU.

Addressing the media, Prof. A. K. Buragohain said that the Bar Council of India National Moot Court Competition is regarded as a benchmark for legal education in India. It provides a national platform for budding lawyers to hone their skills in legal research, drafting, oral advocacy, and courtroom etiquette, while fostering excellence and professionalism in the legal fraternity.

“The event at RGU will witness rigorous rounds of legal argumentation, research excellence, and advocacy skills in a simulated courtroom environment”, he added.

Prof. Bhuban Chandra Barooah stated that the moot court rounds will be judged by an eminent panel comprising Judges, Senior Advocates of the Gauhati High Court, leading advocates, and renowned academicians from premier law institutions, ensuring a high standard of evaluation and
academic rigor.

“Till now, 65 teams from various parts of India have registered to participate in the
competition. The Final Round will be graced by Mr. Justice Kalyan Rai Surana, Judge,
Gauhati High Court, Dilip Majumdar, Senior Advocate, Gauhati High Court, Dr. Shaiwal
Satyarthi, Professor of Law, University of Delhi”, he added.

Speaking to the media, Advocate Rakhee Sirauthia Chowdhury said that the Inauguration Ceremony will be held on 30 th January and it will be graced by Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, Former Judge, Supreme Court of India and Chairperson, Law Commission of India, as the Chief Guest.

The ceremony will also feature an address by Apurba Kumar Sharma, Senior Advocate and Chairman, Executive Committee, Bar Council of India.

“With Royal Global University hosting this landmark national event, Guwahati is poised to emerge as a significant hub for legal education and advocacy in the country”, she added.
The Valedictory Ceremony is scheduled for 31 st January where the Chief Guest will be Justice Ujjal Bhuyan, Judge, Supreme Court of India.

The programme will also include addresses by Manan Kumar Mishra, Senior Advocate, Chairman, Bar Council of India and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha).
