TURA, Feb 3: The Tura Based Church Leaders’ Forum on Sunday, undertook a fact finding, prayer, and solidarity visit to the plain belt areas of the Garo Hills, in the aftermath of the recent incident of the fatal mob attack on ACHIK leader, Dilseng M Sangma.
The visit, which took place under escort by 12 personnel of the Meghalaya Police (MLP), aimed to understand the ground reality, listen directly to the concerns of the people, and offer reassurance during a period of heightened tension.
The delegation comprised 20 members of the Tura Based Church Leaders’ Forum, representing various Christian denominations and institutions. The visit was conducted with the prior knowledge and permission of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and the Superintendent of Police (SP), West Garo Hills.
The areas visited were Rajabala and Shyamnagar, which have been directly or indirectly affected by the prevailing situation and its repercussions. The proposed visit to Singimari and Chibinang was postponed due to the prevailing law and order situation.
