Groups file FIR over illegal coal transport

TURA, Feb 4: Combined organizations from Rongmil in East Garo Hills have filed an FIR against an unidentified coal syndicate for alleged overloading and transporting coal without valid documents in violation of the Supreme Court directive and other relevant acts.

The joint FIR was filed by local groups like the ASPF, AHAM and Goera, with the Officer in-charge of the Rongmil Outpost/OGC police station.

According to the local groups, the illegal activity is being carried out at night along NH-62 and NH-217, with coal originating from Nongalbibra area. The illegal consignment is then taken to neighbouring Assam.

The local groups have sought the immediate registration of the FIR, seizure and impounding of all illegal coal laden trucks and the initiation of a thorough investigation.
