TURA, Feb 5: The All Meghalaya Minority Students’ Union (AMMSU) on Thursday highlighted the prolonged delay in compensating landowners affected by the construction of NH-127B.
In an appeal submitted to the Deputy Commissioner and the Competent Authority for Land Acquisition (CALA) through the Batabari BDO, the union sought immediate intervention to resolve the payment deadlock.
According to the union, an initial survey failed to properly record various assets, including plantations, residential and commercial structures, and borewells. While a second survey was later conducted to include these missing items, no compensation has been released since its completion. “The uncertainty surrounding the disbursement has resulted in severe financial distress, displacement-related hardship, and growing public resentment,” the union stated.
AMMSU has demanded that authorities clarify the current status of the payments, explain the reasons for the delay, and provide a definitive timeline for the disbursement of funds.
