SHILLONG, Feb 8: Preparations are under way for the 6th Conference of the Khun Samla Sengkhihlang (Seng Khasi Seiñ Raij), scheduled for February 14 and 15 at Wahnongkseh village in Sohiong Circle.
Office-bearers of the organization visited Wahnongkseh on Saturday to review arrangements for the two-day event. The conference is expected to draw youths, elders, and followers of the Niam Khasi Niamtre faith from across the Khasi Hills.
Khun Samla Sengkhihlang president Kyrpad Syrti invited community members to attend the deliberations and cultural activities. Kampar Shabong, president of Seng Khasi Thaiñ Nongkseh, stated that the local unit is working to ensure a coordinated event and urged participation from the traditional jurisdictions of the 30 Syiems and 12 Dolois.
Shabong noted that measures have been put in place to regulate traffic and entry to the venue to avoid congestion. He further clarified that only Khasi vendors will be permitted to set up stalls at the venue, adding that non-Khasi traders will not be allowed to sell goods during the event.
The conference will focus on Khasi traditions, cultural identity, and the role of youth in preserving indigenous customs and practices.
