SHILLONG, Feb 9: Rilang Children’s Home on Monday celebrated its 17th foundation day at the Bosco Integrated Development Society (BIDS) hall at Nongshilliang, Nongthymmai, marking the occasion by recognising the achievements of children currently under its care as well as former residents who went on to lead successful lives.
The programme highlighted the Home’s long-standing commitment to nurturing vulnerable children and empowering them through care, education and strong values. Several children and youth were felicitated for their academic and personal achievements, reflecting the positive impact of the institution’s work over the years.
The celebration also featured a special moment of gratitude, during which the Home acknowledged and honoured its collaborators, benefactors and well-wishers for their continued support since its inception.
The organisers said their encouragement and assistance have played a vital role in shaping the lives and futures of the children.
Addressing the gathering, Nongthymmai MLA Charles Pyngrope expressed happiness on witnessing the success stories of the children, stating that these achievements were a testament to the love, care and dedication shown by those running the Home.
“When we see these success stories, it fills us with joy and gives us hope. It reminds us that all of us should come forward and lend a helping hand,” Pyngrope said.
He noted that while individual efforts may be limited, collective action driven by sincerity and compassion can bring meaningful changes in the state.
“If everyone contributes with their heart, we will surely see light at the end of the tunnel, which is what we all want for our children,” he added.
Emphasising the inherent value of every child, Pyngrope said that a child may belong to any family, but ultimately is a child of God. He acknowledged the contributions of missionaries and organisations from different faiths, saying that their efforts have helped bring hope and direction into the lives of many children.
