SHILLONG, Feb 14: A handwritten bomb threat discovered in an aircraft lavatory sent a Shillong-bound IndiGo flight into a security lockdown at Kolkata airport on Saturday, leaving passengers stranded for hours before the flight was eventually cleared to land at Umroi.
The flight was scheduled to depart Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport at 9:15 a.m. However, shortly before takeoff, crew members found a note inside one of the toilets stating, “There is a bomb on the plane.”
Security protocols were immediately activated, and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel ordered all passengers to disembark. The aircraft was moved to an isolation bay, where a bomb disposal squad conducted a thorough sweep of the cabin and luggage.
Airport authorities confirmed that no explosives were found during the search. Following the security clearance, the flight was permitted to resume its journey. It arrived safely at Umroi Airport later in the afternoon, several hours behind schedule.
