SHILLONG, Feb 15: Education Minister and Amlarem MLA Lahkmen Rymbui on Saturday distributed work orders for infrastructure projects and handed over vehicles for student transport and waste management during a visit to Kyrweng, Sankhat, and Khonglah villages in West Jaintia Hills.
At Kyrweng village, the minister handed over a vehicle dedicated to transporting students to Muktapur. The initiative aims to ensure safe and regular access to education, particularly during the monsoon when travel in the region becomes difficult. Addressing the gathering, Rymbui urged residents to use the vehicle strictly for its intended purpose and called on the Village Dorbar to take responsibility for its maintenance.
During the visit, the minister distributed work orders worth Rs 5 lakh for the construction of additional classrooms at Kyrweng LP School to accommodate a growing student population. He also sanctioned Rs 1 lakh for a new school toilet to improve campus sanitation.
Extending developmental support to Sankhat Village, Rymbui provided work orders worth Rs 5 lakh for internal road construction and an additional Rs 2 lakh for a boundary wall at RC Sankhat.
The minister later visited Khonglah Village to hand over a Maruti Super Carry vehicle to support waste management and local cleanliness drives. Highlighting that hygiene is vital for community health, Rymbui expressed hope that the vehicle would assist the Dorbar Shnong in maintaining a cleaner environment for future generations.
