SHILLONG, Feb 17: The Centre for Gender at Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) organised a five-day foundation course on Gender Studies, Reproductive Health and Life Skills for undergraduate second-semester students.
The programme, which will culminate on February 20, is aimed at providing scientifically accurate knowledge, promote gender sensitivity and equip students with essential life skills for holistic development.
The sessions covered a wide range of topics, including reproductive health and contraception, gender roles and diversity, sexually transmitted infections, sensation-seeking behaviour, child sexual abuse awareness and personal safety.
It also addressed important legal frameworks such as the POCSO Act, the Transgender Persons Act and the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act.
Furthermore, students engaged in discussions on body image, self-esteem, relationships, communication, coping skills and empathy.
One of the highlights of the programme was the ‘Human Library’ session featuring resource persons from the Adolescent Friendly Clinic, Ganesh Das Hospital and SELDA. This session also provided students with opportunities for open dialogue and experiential learning.
