SHILLONG, Feb 17: Meghalaya marked its international debut at BIOFACH 2026 in Nuremberg, Germany, positioning the state as a rising organic sourcing hub from Northeast India.
As the world’s leading trade fair for organic food and agriculture, BIOFACH 2026 featured participation from over 90 countries, with India designated as the “Country of the Year.” Meghalaya used the platform to present its organic infrastructure, including certification systems, farmer collectives, and export-ready value chains.
The state delegation was led by Dr Vijay Kumar D, Commissioner and Secretary and Chairman of MEGNOLIA (Meghalaya Natural and Organic Farming Society for Livelihood and Innovation in Agriculture). Addressing an international audience, Kumar outlined the state’s organic roadmap, focusing on community-driven growth, ecological sustainability, and market integration.
He noted that farmer collectives, supported by state policy and cluster-based certification, are increasingly aligning with global standards for traceability and sustainability. The delegation also met with international buyers, traders, and certification agencies to explore procurement partnerships and long-term trade collaborations.
