SHILLONG, March 2: More than 2,000 devotees and community members gathered at the Cantonment Playground on Monday for the Hindu Sanmilan Utsav.
The event commenced with a Kalash Yatra from Rilbong Point to the Cantonment Ground, with women and youth participating in a procession the organisers said symbolised unity and cultural pride.
The Utsav featured performances from various groups, including a traditional dance by members of the indigenous Khasi community. Organisers noted that the performances were intended to reflect the region’s cultural diversity and promote a message of inclusiveness.
Speakers at the gathering highlighted the concept of “Pancha Parivartan” (Five Transformations), which focuses on social harmony, family values, environmental awareness, self-reliance (Swadeshi), and civic responsibility. They stated that societal progress relies on individual commitment to these five pillars.
Community leaders and dignitaries addressed the crowd, urging residents to remain united and work collectively for the welfare of the nation.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks to the participants, volunteers, and the district administration for their support.
