Tura, Mar 5: The Annual District Industrial Exhibition was inaugurated today at the Matchakolgre LP School Field, bringing together local entrepreneurs, artisans and self-help groups to showcase their products and promote small-scale industries in the district.
The inaugural programme was chaired by Smt. B. D. Shira, Functional Manager, DCIC Tura. Delivering the welcome address, Shri C. F. R. Marak, Functional Manager, DCIC Tura, welcomed the dignitaries, participants and visitors, and highlighted the importance of such exhibitions in promoting entrepreneurship and providing market opportunities for local producers.
The Chief Guest, Shri V. Sharma, IAS, Assistant Commissioner, West Garo Hills District, appreciated the efforts of the organisers in providing a platform for local entrepreneurs to showcase and promote their products. Encouraging the entrepreneurs, he stated, “Do not be afraid. Whatever you have started is good, and you should continue with it.” He urged participants to remain confident in their ventures and continue working towards strengthening their businesses
As part of the programme, a felicitation ceremony was held to honour five women entrepreneurs in celebration of International Women’s Day, recognising their commitment, hard work and contributions towards entrepreneurship and local economic development. Speaking on behalf of the entrepreneurs, Smt. Precinda K. Sangma shared her experiences and encouraged more women to venture into entrepreneurship.
Speaking to media persons after the programme, Smt. N. F. R. Marak, General Manager, DCIC Tura, informed that the district-level industrial exhibition is being organised for two days and has around 60 participants, including local entrepreneurs and artisans. She stated that the exhibition features a wide range of stalls showcasing handicrafts, handloom and loin loom products, bamboo crafts, and various food items, highlighting the rich local talent and creativity of the region.
She further stated that the main objective of organising the exhibition is to provide a meaningful platform for local artisans and entrepreneurs to market and sell their products, while also allowing them to exchange ideas, learn from each other’s experiences, and build collaborations with buyers and customers. She added that such events also help entrepreneurs understand customer needs, market trends, and demands, thereby enabling them to improve and expand their businesses.
The two-day exhibition will continue to provide visitors an opportunity to explore and support locally produced goods and products made by entrepreneurs from across the district.
