Tura, Mar 5: Students, teachers and faculty members of the NEHU – Tura campus have come out in strong condemnation after a professor from the campus, Kailash Chandra Biswal was allegedly physically assaulted near the Mawlai Bypass by a group of alleged miscreants while returning from Shillong.
The incident took place on Mar 2.
Biswal is a professor in the department of Management and is also serving as the registrar in charge of the campus.
“The fraternity of NEHU – Tura Campus expresses its strongest condemnation of the act of physical violence committed against Prof. Biswal. Such aggression is completely unacceptable and stands in direct contradiction to the values, respect, safety and dignity that educational institutions are meant to uphold,” said a statement from the campus.
“Academicians dedicate themselves to guiding, mentoring and educating students, whilst few are also delegated administrative duties from time to time. It is expected that the environment for performance of duties is safe and free from fear, intimidation and harm,” they added.
Urging the appropriate authorities to take immediate action and with seriousness, the fraternity asked for all necessary steps to be taken to ensure such incidents are not repeated.
“We stand united in solidarity with Prof. Biswal and his family during this difficult time,” the statement added.
