SHILLONG, March 6: The Directorate of Higher and Technical Education (DHTE) on Friday assured that candidates from Meghalaya, appearing for the CUET-PG, will not be required to travel outside the Northeast to take their examinations.
Clarifying the arrangements for the tests conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), the department, in a statement on Friday, said it has been consistently mobilising a large number of compatible computer nodes so that students can be accommodated within the state.
As the number of candidates registering for these examinations increases each year, a gap has emerged between the eligible examinees and the computer nodes required for computer-based tests. Currently, NTA examinations are conducted regularly with the existing capacity.
However, when a high volume of students registers for a common paper, some are required to opt for their second or third choice of centres, as permitted under NTA regulations.
It also said that following the recent addition of more computer terminals, candidates scheduled to appear for their papers on March 6 and 7, 2026, will be accommodated at centres within Meghalaya.
For the subsequent examination dates from March 8 to 10, there has also been a significant shift, moving candidates from centres outside the state to those located locally.
NTA officials and teams from Tata Consultancy Services are  actively working to address the infrastructure gap for the remaining dates. Despite the logistical hurdles, the Directorate maintained that no candidate will be forced to travel beyond the region.
Meanwhile, the state government is establishing permanent Computer-Based Test Centres in government educational institutions across Meghalaya.
This initiative includes establishment of an additional 450 compatible computer nodes and the necessary supporting infrastructure.
Once these new systems become fully operational alongside the existing facilities, candidates will no longer have to travel outside Meghalaya to appear for such examinations.
