Govt debunks rumours of new UT near Siliguri corridor
NEW DELHI, March 7: The government on Saturday described as “fake” social media posts which claimed that it was planning to create a new Union Territory comprising a few districts of Bihar and West Bengal near the Siliguri corridor. No such proposal is under consideration, it asserted.“Social media posts are claiming that the Government is planning to create a new Union Territory comprising districts from Bihar and West Bengal near the Siliguri corridor. This claim is #Fake,” the Press Information Bureau Fact Check said in a post on ‘X’.The PIB said, “There is no such proposal under consideration by the Government of India”. (PTI)
Doctor among 3 arrested for killing medic
BIJNOR(UP), March 7: Police in UP’s Bijnor district arrested three persons, including a doctor, for the murder of another medic on March 5.Three men, including a doctor, have been arrested in connection with the killing of Dr Rajkumar, the operator of Shivalaya Healthcare Hospital in the district.Rajkumar was shot dead on the evening of March 5 inside the hospital, allegedly by Vikas, who entered the clinic posing as a patient and opened fire while pretending to show a pathology report.Investigation revealed that Rajkumar and Dr Neeraj had jointly opened a hospital four years ago. However, due to financial disagreements, Rajkumar later branched out and set up his own hospital, which led to a significant drop in footfall at Neeraj’s facility.Driven by professional rivalry, Neeraj allegedly hired his driver Vikas for Rs 10 lakh to eliminate Rajkumar. Neeraj reportedly paid Vikas Rs 2 lakh in advance to execute the hit, the officer said.Police have arrested the two and a third who allegedly supplied the weapon. (PTI)
Bihar man ‘killed’ in attack on ship off Oman coast
PATNA, March 7: Investigations are on to ascertain the identity of the people, one of them suspected to be from Bihar, who were reportedly killed in an attack on a container ship in the restive West Asia region earlier this week.According to the District Magistrate of West Champaran, local resident Captain Ashish Kumar was on board the ship that went up in flames upon being hit, on March 1, by an unidentified projectile off the coast of Oman.Two charred bodies, one in the captain’s cabin, have been recovered from the wreckage.The district administration, has, however, urged the family to wait till reports of the DNA tests of the skeletal remains arrive.
