SHILLONG, March 8: HSPDP chief KP Pangniang on Sunday called for the resumption of the Assam–Meghalaya boundary talks regarding the Langpih sector following the Assam elections, warning that further delays could alienate local residents.
Pangniang recalled that leaders had previously assured that negotiations would proceed once the elections concluded. He pointed to the 2022 visit by the Chief Ministers of both states to Langpih, where they addressed a large gathering and committed to a boundary settlement.
According to the HSPDP leader, thousands of residents who attended that meeting have been waiting for progress, and frustration is mounting as the dispute remains unresolved.
He stressed that once the polls are over, discussions must resume as promised to bring the matter to a logical conclusion. Pangniang cautioned that the people of Langpih may not remain silent indefinitely if the delay persists, adding that the continued stalemate is being poorly received by the border population.

The HSPDP is yet to decide on its strategy for the upcoming MP elections, with party chief KP Pangniang stating that internal discussions are still pending.
Pangniang noted that as no formal notification for the elections has been issued, the party has not determined whether it will field its own candidate or support a joint candidate with its ally, the United Democratic Party (UDP).
“The matter will be discussed within the party before any final decision is taken,” Pangniang said, adding that internal consultations are a prerequisite before engaging with allies on electoral arrangements.
Once deliberations are complete, the HSPDP will decide whether to contest independently or back a common candidate. The HSPDP chief stated the party is waiting for further clarity before taking a formal stand.
