GUWAHATI, March 13: Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi on Friday said that the party’s second list of candidates for the forthcoming Assembly elections would be released on Saturday.

“Around 95 percent of the Congress candidates’ list has been finalised. The second list of Congress candidates will be released by tomorrow,” Gogoi informed mediapersons after attending a special meeting under the chairmanship of All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Mallikarjun Kharge in New Delhi on Friday.

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi; chairperson of the screening committee for the Assam elections, Priyanka Gandhi; AICC organisation general secretary K. C. Venugopal; AICC general secretary and Assam in-charge Jitendra Singh; co-incharge Prithviraj Prabhakar, along with Manoj Chauhan, Vikas Upadhyay, senior observers, and members of the central election committee also attended the meeting.

During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the selection of party candidates for the Assembly elections as well as other election-related matters.

The AICC central election committee, on March 3, released the first list of 42 candidates for the Assam Assembly polls.

On the issue of alliance with Raijor Dal, Gogoi expressed a positive outlook and said, “The alliance has only been paused, not broken.”

He also hinted that the alliance could move forward positively.

Gogoi said that as discussions over seat-sharing with Raijor Dal had become somewhat heated, a step back was taken to allow time for calm and thoughtful decision-making.
