GUWAHATI, March 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that the Bodo Peace Accord was a landmark achievement that united all major outfits on a single platform and laid the foundation of peace in the Bodoland region.
Laying the foundation stone for various development works, worth over Rs 4,570 crore in Kokrajhar via video conferencing from here, the Prime Minister observed that the inclusive approach was a departure from the politics of the past.
The Prime Minister observed that the integration of 10,000 former insurgents into the mainstream is a major victory for the region.
“We are fulfilling every promise to bring the youth into the mainstream. We made honest efforts for permanent peace by bringing everyone together,” he affirmed.
Modi, who is on a two-day tour of Assam to inaugurate and lay the foundation of projects worth Rs 47,800 crore, stated that all commitments made under the 2020 Bodo agreement are being systematically fulfilled by the government.
He remarked that the Bodo language has been elevated to the status of an Associate Official Language as promised.
The Prime Minister noted that a special development package of Rs 1,500 crore has been deployed, alongside the establishment of new medical colleges.
“These development projects are aimed at boosting the region’s growth. Today, Bodoland has set out on the path of peace and development and Assam is writing a new chapter of peace and prosperity,” he said.
The road infrastructure projects in the Bodoland Territorial Region, including six infrastructure projects will be implemented at a cost of over Rs 1,100 crore, including four flyovers and two bridges. A railway maintenance workshop will be established at Basbari in Kokrajhar district.
The Prime Minister laid the foundation stones for four flyovers in Kokrajhar town, projects expected to ease traffic congestion and improve urban connectivity.
Apart from the projects in BTC, the Prime Minister on Friday also inaugurated and dedicated to the nation several development projects around Rs 19,680 crore.
Three new train services aimed at improving connectivity in the Northeast were flagged off by the Prime Minister. The trains include the Kamakhya–Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express, Narangi–Agartala Express, and Guwahati–New Jalpaiguri Express.
In a significant move, the Prime Minister also launched the distribution of land pattas to around 3.5 lakh tea garden families in Assam. The initiative aims to grant legal homestead land rights to generations of tea garden workers who have lived in labour lines for decades without ownership of the land.
On Saturday, Modi is scheduled to visit Silchar, where he will dedicate and lay the foundation stones of projects worth about Rs 23,550 crore.
