SHILLONG, March 13: Voice of the People Party (VPP) supremo Ardent M. Basaiawmoit on Friday asked the state government to explain and apologise to the people of Meghalaya if investigations confirm that foreign elements were involved in the recent incidents of violence in Garo Hills.
In a statement, Basaiawmoit said it was “rather shocking” to learn through media reports that the unfortunate incidents that took place recently in the Garo Hills region, particularly in West Garo Hills district, might have been caused with the involvement of foreign elements.
He said such a development would indicate a complete failure of the intelligence network in the state and alleged that the government had repeatedly denied the presence of large-scale infiltration of outsiders into Meghalaya.
Basaiawmoit stated that if investigations into the matter prove the reports to be true, those in power must explain the situation to the people of the state, offer an apology and step down from office immediately.
