NONGPOH, March 13: A truck carrying LPG cylinders caught fire around midnight on Friday on National Highway 6 in Ri-Bhoi district, sparking panic among motorists.
The incident occurred at Pahammawlein 20 Mer village near the NHAI toll gate while the truck (AS01SC1518) was travelling from Guwahati to Shillong. The fire reportedly engulfed the front portion of the vehicle.
Preliminary reports suggest the blaze was triggered by an electrical short circuit.
Personnel from Byrnihat Police Station and fire services managed to control the fire before it could reach the gas cylinders. No injuries were reported, and both the driver and handyman escaped unharmed.
