JOWAI/ MAIRANG, March 14: Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) in Jaintia Hills and West Khasi Hills organised live screenings on Friday to mark the release of the 22nd installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In Jowai, the programme was held at the KVK office in Moopun, Wahiajer, and was attended by district officials, agricultural scientists from CPGS-AS Umiam and local farmers.
West Jaintia Hills Assistant Commissioner LRU Marak, who was the chief guest, described agriculture as the “backbone of the nation” and urged the farming community to adopt modern techniques.
On the other hand, District Agriculture Officer S. Kynjing encouraged farmers to treat agriculture as a serious livelihood and utilise the financial benefits provided under government initiatives.
In Mairang, KVK West Khasi Hills hosted a screening attended by 185 farm women from the Mawthadraishan Block.
Farm Manager Heipormi Sungoh explained that the scheme provides Rs 6,000 annually to eligible families in three installments to help purchase seeds and fertilisers.
He urged farmers to ensure their Aadhaar, bank, and land records are properly linked to avoid delays in receiving benefits.
It may be mentioned that both programmes concluded with the live telecast of the prime minister’s address, which focused on the government’s commitment to farmer welfare and development projects aimed at improving infrastructure and economic growth in the Northeast.
